***There are so many things to share with writers’ that I have learned, on my own, that is very helpful in the writing process. Making writing more fluid and free-flowing and discovering what works best for you is your biggest asset throughout the writing process. You can achieve this by having a conversation with your reading audience and expecting and engaging possible questions and even creating unexpected plot twists is always a welcome way to gain and keep audience attention.

Writers’ don’t be derelict in doing your research when writing an informational article, column, essay, novel or anything that has your valuable signature at the end. You can’t pretend that what you write does not belong to you. Writing is done by people who are probably great at speaking, teaching, or at least at gaining an audience by what they choose to communicate to the world.

If you are passionate enough to defend your stance on stories, romance or entertaining content, then by all means enjoy all that writing entails… Dive into the archives like eating a piece of raw fruit, so tasty that you wish to savor it till the end.

Dive into the details and click, flip or jump in your car and visit the site where your novel relies on you to provide amazing, stimulating hyperbole, for great insight into your location, spare no details. If you fail to visit your story setting, at least seek and find all of the details, unpack your adjectives and get into the heart by unleashing what can only be experienced by someone who has been present at the site of your plot or story.

Contact people who know the area, interview locals. Arrange to meet and speak to people who know your subjects details even more than you do. Interview as many people or events that you can witness by your own senses. Learn their creative process and learn about your own style of formulating honest assessments more than you can do any guesswork.

Be aware of popular, unusual or in/appropriate vernacular that’ll help keep the story savory, unique and also can reach the audience that you are seeking. Sometimes the writer is unaware that there are some generations that prefer soft, subtle implications versus overt details, or brash wording to depict something that is timeless or human. Also, tasteful humor is always welcome versus dry, stiff plots or character references.

Always try to end your writing on a high note, ask a question or make a welcoming statement at the end.

Don’t be too quick to toss out your rough draft, with time and date stamp, keep proof of ownership for all that you write, create, design or invent. You never know when you’ll find it helpful, lawful, beneficial or keep it simply to witness the evolution of your writing style.

Renegade Running From the Lawlessness of Fear, Lies and Untruths in Your Life

A Renegade is running, fleeing or deserting common logic or principles that can cause them or others pain or discomfort. A Renegade is running from whom? The lawlessness of fear; there is no reason to be afraid when imminent danger is not present. Renegades are oftentimes misunderstood. Are they really running from the law, or are they running away from something horrible, or painful, or from lies that they make a conscious effort to dismiss? Are renegades running from lies told about themselves, lies they tell, or untruths in their perception about themselves or about others?

You be the judge, after all, aren’t we all renegades in one area of life? Running like a renegade, is to flee from receiving pain we regret, or fleeing something lawless, untruths or fabricated, unfounded gossip by liars and thieves of peace. Perhaps a Renegade is running from fear? Fear should be limited, or when unfounded, illegal in all 50 states, and anywhere else coveted by humanity. Fear does have a purpose, it warns of danger or destruction, though it should not be a life situation, or an ongoing event.

In my own opinion, manifested renegade energy begins with a thought about what resonates with emotions and perception about any given, unlawful circumstance, or of a situation that has passed normal constraints, surpassed acceptable boundaries, or limits. Don’t allow anyone to place constraints or limits on your time, life, or on your perception of reality.

Be aware of your conditioned reality. Make it conditioned expression. Reprogram your renegade energy. Replace limiting beliefs with action. Move and advance with freedom of mobility and thought to suit your own dial-setting, and not to the setting of society’s view of what you need to do. Judging another or being judged is a very limiting way to exist. Take renegade energy by the reins and witness new ways of processing accurate information, increase your base of knowledge, watch new avenues become more attainable with less effort and gain clarity.

Live in your own truth and make yourself acceptable and accountable to none, other than yourself. If you are a poet, painter, or carpenter or animal trainer, use your best energy to accept your own attributes and release any renegade thoughts, that are not your own truth, of your own making, or in alignment with your current life situation.

Renegades run from the law, though, it may be that they are running away from their own sense of law that is guided through their subconscious voice. Our subconscious voice, we all have one, is innate, and individual, the private inner voice that speaks to us. The voice that cannot be hidden from you, or in the knowing that the voice refuses to be quiet and demands to deliver a message, or administer a warning.

To be a renegade is an injustice to the inner man. Our conscious voice speaks with words and messages with remarkable delivery making requests for movement. Convert those resounding words into ACTION, or dismiss altogether, only you know the correct response to that acquisition.

RENEGADE energy is VERY CLEAR, there is something REMISS, OUT-OF-SYNC, or it resonates with ANXIETY, FEAR, PAIN. OR DISEASE, suggesting that an intuitive alarm bell is ringing loudly to be heard, even if only by you!

Listen to the alarm when you hear the vibrations ringing with renegade energy, summoning your attention to generate focus on a particular situation, or response that went unchallenged, out of control, gone awry, or possibly went unnoticed.

STAND FACE-TO-FACE in clear cognizance and presence of mind, the renegade energy that you feel can be faced directly. You are the only energy in the synergy of your universe strong enough to deflate the RENEGADE inside of you that lies, cheats and steals. Maybe the RENEGADE is confused energy that will run away once you comfort and soothe that soft, inner voice with kindness, TRUTH and tender energy.

Allow yourself to be consoled first. Give self-comfort, and then give comfort to family and friends. Face the situation and take the necessary steps to correct what is remiss, misunderstood, or sometimes seeks closure, on a situation that no longer carries life-enhancing energy for you.

RELAX, REJOICE, RECHARGE AND RELEASE RENEGADE energy. . Rapid, run- away energy needs to be reined into positive, productive, palpable, peaceful guidance. Renegade energy is in everyone, make the choice to seek knowledge and challenge fearful situations, start by focusing on events that will increase your understanding for the betterment of your life journey, and of those along your path.

Like the alarm bell that sounded for you this morning, it served its purpose and now it’s time to begin a new chapter in your life, time to release negative people, situations and lies, that are only a reminder, of how much you have learned throughout your life challenges. Many blessing’s are wished for you on your life-long learning and in realizing your dreams!

Machine Shops - How to Make the Small Shop Profitable

According to the US Census there are over 25,000 machine shops with less than 4 employees, not counting thousands of 1-man operations scattered across the country. Making a profit while owning a small machine shop can be tough in these economically depressed times. Here are some tips on making a profit.

Hire family or close friends and classify them as officers not employees. This will help with insurance charges. Check with your insurance agent and state for particular requirements.

Down size – Do you really need that 10,000 sf building? If possible run out of your shed, garage or barn. If not many self-storage facilities now offer storefronts.

Upgrade to CNC Milling – If you have all manual machines consider upgrading to a CNC.

Offer reduced rate services to local manufacturers. Locale manufacturers will have contracted large shops many miles away to machine their product. There are times when they need to rework, modify or make changes on the fly. They will turn to the closest, cheapest ship in the area.

Offer reduced rate services to local Hobby Clubs – Many hobby clubs including RC Model Clubs, Model Building Clubs, and Engineering Clubs require prototypes and custom parts and accessories built. Offering a group discount hourly rate to these clubs will insure all machining requirements come to your shop.

Quote on government work – The United States Government is the largest spending customer in the world for goods and services. There are hundreds of machining opportunities everyday.

Overflow Work – Find the largest shops in town and offer overflow work. Many large machine shops love working with small shops, the reason is they can instantly expand their workforce and machining capability at a lower rate then there own. This assists them in their tight deadline critical projects.

Raw Material – Group orders together as much as possible. Never order cut lengths instead of full lengths. Full lengths of material are always cheaper then cut pieces. If small pieces are absolutely necessary ask your vendor to quote you “Randoms” These are the pieces that are left over from a previous cut order and are usually offered at a substantial discount.

Cutting tools – never order the made in china cutting tools. A $25.00 Made in USA end mill will out perform the $10.00 Import any day of the week. Expect to go through 3 import Endmills to every one domestic end mill. This will add to your cutting tool overhead, lower your per piece volume and add to tool change cycle times. Also don’t be afraid to shop around for your cutting tools. Many tool vendors are in the same boat you are in and will sell you tools at a very low mark up. If at all possible talk to someone at your vendors inside sales department. Many tools can be offered at great quantity discounts if you pool your order and just ask for a discount.

Recycle your chips – Scrap your Stainless and Aluminum chips. Also don’t forget your broken and dull carbides.

Many machine tool manufacturers will refer to you clients who are interested in purchasing the same machine you have but cannot afford it at the current time. This is especially true with specialized equipment. Just call up your tool salesman and ask.

Precision pays – The tighter the tolerance the more time consuming and difficult the job is. If you are a true journeyman machinist this niche will always be profitable regardless of the economy.

Welders – Contact all the local welders in your area. If they scratch your back you will scratch theirs. All the welding work you get you contract to them in exchange for all the machining requirements they have.

SBA- Take advantage of all the resources, loans and grants offered by the SBA. (If you have been in business for 2 years)

Accounting – A good CPA will be your best friend in business, always do what they say financially. If you have a doubt with what they say question them and have them explain their reasoning.

Market your business – Create business cards, brochures, capability cards and a website. Let your prospective customer know upfront exactly what you can do, what you specialize in and what your capabilities are. You don’t want to be wasting your time quoting jobs you cannot handle.

Quoting – When calculating your hourly rate due not include profit in the rate. That way when you quote a job the price that calculates is your “zero” rate. This is the price that you will break even on if you do not factor in your profit (Sometimes you will want to quote a job at “zero” to win that new customer). Once you have your zero rates you can play with it. For the first 3 or so jobs quote it at a 5% profit margin. Then jobs after that you can bring it up to 12%-15%. Using this method you will always know your break-even rate and can adjust your profit margin to the market at any given time. When the jobs are good your profit mark up can be high. When the jobs are not so easy to come by you can quote at a very little mark up or no mark up at all.

Contingency in Quoting – Always add a small 3-5% contingency to quotes. This will cover the inevitable price increases or expedited shipping or other unforeseen charge that will break your profit margin.

Highly Targeted Email Marketing That Works - A Case Study

It’s difficult to get published, by many estimates less than 1% of would be authors ever receive an offer from a reputable publisher. Of course it is easier to get published if you have a literary agent representing you than if you approach publishers directly. Landing an agent is a formidable challenge, though for many authors, literary agents offer the most viable path to “traditionally” publish a book.

Finding and signing with a literary agent seemed no different to me than finding and closing a prospect for any product, service or solution. To get started, I began with handful of Google searches, which resulted in many sites listing literary agents. Next, I downloaded about 1,200 agents from several of these online sources into an Excel file. Agents are outwardly facing, meaning they offer several ways for would be authors to contact then.

Many agents list their emails for book query submissions (a brief letter or email to whet the interest of a prospective agent). Of the 1,200 agents downloaded, 400 which didn’t accept email solicitations were culled, cutting my list to about 800. My list was then culled further to only100 agents who were interested in business books, non-fiction and prescriptive books (most agents listed the types of books they typically published). And lastly, 100 emails were sent to these agents, with a succinct message about the book and author background.

Here are the results of the highly targeted email campaigns to the 100 literary agents:

Within a month of the initial emailing, 9% of the targeted agents expressed interest, 32% were not interested and there was no response from 59% of the agents. Normally it’s a good idea to follow-up an emailing like this with a phone call, however most literary agents prefer no phone calls, many stating so on their web site. Of the nine agents who expressed interest in the book query, four of them asked for a full proposal (a proposal usually has a biography, marketing section, competition section, chapter outline and sample chapters). Another four agents asked for a printed proposal and mail it to them, and one asked if they could immediately contact publishers about the topic to determine if they had interest.

The digital book proposal was sent to all four agents who requested it via email attachment, and within a few days, an agent was signed. It took less than four weeks from the time the literary agent email list was initially targeted, to sign a prominent agent.

Although there are additional nuances involved with successful current email marketing best practices, the basics used for this seven year old campaign are very similar to that which can be used for successful digital marketing and lead generation today.
