You will need to have your wits about you. It is a dog eat dog world, even online. Furthermore a basic grip on the language you will work in is required. At this point I am very happy to say that the internet is the most even playing field there is. Your keyboard irons out any difference in size shape or whatever, and most people online don’t care, which is good. This is your computer. Almost any will do, but obviously beggar really is better. Faster is good online. Better quality monitors, help your eyesight, chair your posture etc. while it is important that your stuff is good, just functional is also ok. I recently had lightning strike my computer. I had to use an old steam and paraffin driven computer for two weeks. I didn’t die. (But I moaned and moaned enough for people to think I was dying)
Product.
It is naturally at this point where the choices would split up which startup kit items you would need from here on. I am going to presume it is normal affiliate marketing you will do. Please remember that the most popular method that beginners use is affiliate products. Experiences very often splits the survivors up into niche markets like site design or graphics or translation etc.
For the sake of this startup kit you will need to join any of the dozens of affiliate programs. Amazon, Pay Dot Com, Clickbank, and Commission Junction etc. the list is huge. The confusion is bigger, good luck ;+)

For want of a better heading this is the method you need to drive sales of your new product. Some start up simply with a single website and build up from there. You can blog, social site or PPC your way through this area. It is clearly a matter of personality styles at this point. This is generally the daily grind section of your business. Marketing. Getting traffic. All your income depends on how well you achieve in this department.
Fuel/gas
The actual grease to drive it all is another item you will need. The best option or item to use here is money. If you are able to pay for things like advertising then that is great. If not use your own sweat.
Unavailable bit.
The missing item that is totally unavailable is hindsight. If you had that you would get rich fast wouldn’t you? But what is available out there both free and for sale is advice from the experienced marketers. If you need to know something ask the person that knows the most about that item. Too often beginners think that they shouldn’t disturb the busy boffin, and ask some bonehead instead. Ask the key guy. It is easy.
