In today’s global struggles, one that is most alarming is recession. People all over the world are losing jobs! That is why the idea of making money online is getting even more attractive, and one of the most popular terms that people search on the internet is “affiliate marketing.” Although information about “affiliate marketing” can be found everywhere on the internet, most people will find them overwhelming. The good thing is, the basic concept is quite simple.

Market research is the fisrt step in the process.

First, you must research markets you are interested in. This is a crucial starting point! You can do this by discovering what your potential customers are looking for. This is the essence of “keyword research” – knowing how people look for information and what “words” they actually type on search engines. If you don’t do this research, whatever plans you have for you business will most likely fail!

If you can figure out what consumers/users are actually typing on the search engines, you will increase your websites and landing pages ranking higher, generating an inevitable flood of organic, targeted traffic.

Keyword research isn’t necessarily a difficult task, however. Try starting with free Google Keyword Tool. Type this in your Google search page, “Google keyword tool external,” and then type in a keyword or a phrase that identifies the product or niche that you are interested in promoting as an affiliate.

Click on “get keyword ideas” to generate a list of keywords and gauge the competitiveness of the the market by taking a look at the number of times people are searching for your main keywords per month.

Finding a market with an existing demand is what you would want to look for! It should also have existing competition and products readily available, but not so competitive that ranking highly is next to impossible.

What’s important here is that you remember there must be an audience for whatever you choose to market. Since you are an affiliate, your costs for entering a market are not very high, but  it’s still a good idea to take the time to do niche research in order to avoid wasting your time.
