8 Ways to Draw Web Traffic to your Blog

A blog is a great way to pull in targeted audiences to your online business’ website. With a blog, you have a way to dialogue with your clients and a forum from which you can build a relationship. But the best designed blog, loaded with witty commentary and helpful resources, is no good to you if no one ever comes to visit. So how do you go about promoting your blog to bring in the web traffic you desire?

Here are several things you can do to build traffic to your blog.

1.  Write useful and interesting posts.

This is first on the list. Your readers need to not just enjoy reading your posts but they must leave feeling that they’ve gotten something out of it. That way they’ll keep coming back. There’s a lot of interesting stuff to read out there, but who’s got the time to read them all? But if they read something that teaches them something useful, something that will help them earn more or do something better at the same time that it tickles their fancy, then they’re going to want to come back for more.

2. Update frequently.

Okay, your targeted audience likes what they’ve read in your blog. They’ve bookmarked you, intending to come back. But if they re-visit your blog and find that nothing’s changed, then their attention’s going to wane. Make sure that you have fresh content consistently. Your readers will reward you by visiting regularly. Search engines also love fresh content.

      3. Drop in on other blogs.

Look for other blogs in your niche and participate in them. By providing useful comments, tips, and advice, your targeted audience may be induced to check out the link in your signature line. You can also agree to exchange links with the bloggers whose blogs you participate in or which are similarly themed. By doing so, you form a richly interlinked network. (There are various blogging software that can help you implement link exchanges.)

      4. Join forums.

Forums are great ways of building relationships with people of like interests. If they enjoy their exchanges with you, then they’ll more likely check out your links. You can also agree to reciprocally exchange links.

        5. Optimize your blogs for the search engines.

Search for the top keywords for your niche and use these to your advantage. Use your primary keyword in your domain name and, as much as possible, in the titles of your posts. Pepper your posts with secondary keywords.

          6. Ping the search engines.

Register your blog in Ping-o-matic or a similar service. These services will notify or “ping” the different search engines each time your blog is updated, leading the search engines to check you out.

          7.  Register your blog in blog directories.

Major search engines like Yahoo, Google, and MSN often crawl blog directories. Many people also look through web directories to check out the competition. This can result in more clicks to your blog. Some directories offer RSS feed updates. Do a search on the internet to find the directories that are relevant to your blog.

            8.  Install social media buttons in your blog.

Add social media buttons like Stumble, Digg, Tweet, Share, Delicious and numerous others. That way if somebody likes what they read, they can submit it to Reddit or Digg, bookmark it in Delicious, or give it a Tweet or a Stumble. These will draw additional traffic to your blog.

There are definitely other ways to promote your blog, but these eight should be a good start in bringing people to your site. Good luck in using them.
