Divorce court in Houston is not someplace that I ever dreamed of visiting. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I met my husband while in high school. We dated through high school and college. After college graduation, we both got good jobs and then had a great big Texas wedding. After five years of marriage, we have decided to separate. It is not the scenario that I expected to find myself in but now that I am here, I need to find a lawyer. I cannot go into divorce court in Houston without the help of a qualified and experienced lawyer by my side.
The first step for me is to schedule a consultation with a divorce lawyer who has experience in the courtroom. During the consultation I will explain the situation to the lawyer and then I then will ask my pertinent questions. The divorce lawyer begins to explain how divorce works in Texas. Since we don’t have children, we don’t have to take a parenting class, and it will be a lot easier to separate.
However, we do have a lot of debt that will have to be figured out. We both have student loans and car loans. At this point I’m happy that we did not buy a house. We do have a lot of household goods that we will need to divide. I don’t want to fight over stuff and the lawyer said that the more we can agree the faster the divorce process will go. At this point I’m going to listen to the lawyer because he knows what he is talking about.
I would like my experience in divorce court in Houston to go quickly and smoothly. I don’t want to fight with my soon to be ex-husband. I just want to get it over with as quickly as possible. The divorce lawyer is filing the petition and is going to call me for another appointment to discuss what the next steps are. As long as there isn’t any arguing I think we can get through this painful process. I intend to allow my lawyer to do as much of the talking as possible. I am following his lead and doing everything that I’m advised to do.
In the end, divorce court was indeed long and painful. It was an emotional task to divorce my high school sweetheart. However, having a great lawyer to stand beside me made all of the difference in the world. He knew how to act in the courtroom and also how to talk to the judge. I would never have been able to do this process without him. I walked away from my marriage with my own student loan, my own car loan, and half of the furniture that was in our apartment. I also had to move out and get my own place to live. I decided to give him the apartment rather than argue over who had to move. I am just happy that with my divorce lawyers help, I’m able to move on with my life.
