If you run or manage a hairdressing salon then I wonder if you have encountered problems motivating your team at one time or another? It is a problem that I have had and one which prompted me to get creative and think of business systems that I could implement to get my stylists revved up again.I turned to business books and courses in an effort to find some of the best ways to keep my people producing great results.

Money is always a good motivator but how can we pay more if the salons income doesn’t increase? The answer is by taking less wage ourselves or by making cutbacks on services in the salon, neither of these are good ideas I am sure you will agree?

So we need to bring more income in so that we can increase wages and hopefully create a happy motivated team. There are only 2 ways that we can do this.

Charge more or do more, or maybe a bit of both. Charging more is a huge subject which will be covered in another article at a later date. Today we are going to concern ourselves with doing more.

Create a commission scheme – commission paid on income is probably the most obvious way of increasing wages but how much should we pay? If your salon is vat registered the maximum commission you can afford to pay and still cover your bills and make a profit is around 35%. If you have a computer system which I highly recommend then you can look over the stylists last year of takings and work out once you have taken into account the vat whether or not the stylist would be any better off being paid 35% commission. If the answer is yes then its an easy fix. If you have decided to go ahead with the scheme you could call a meeting and explain to the team that they will be paid either their regular wage or the 35% commission which ever is the greater. This in itself should motivate them to bring in more income by working harder or staying later to do those end of the day clients.

Retail commission – If you have any retail products in your salon such as Paul Mitchell, Tigi, GHD OR Cloud 9 then you can afford to give your team 10% commission on sales, once you’ve taken the vat off of course!Hairstylists tend to have their favourite products so lets say the stylist loves Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and uses it on a lot of clients, when doing the clients hair the stylist could explain what they are using and the benefits of the product and then when the client see’s the finished result they may want to purchase the product for take home so creating a commission for the stylist,a profit for the salon and a happy client who can now reproduce the look at home. So everyone wins and now the stylist has an ongoing way to increase wages.

Extra holidays for hitting targets – This is a great way to encourage your team and as some people value their time over money it widens the appeal to your team. You could set performance targets over the month and if the stylist hits the goals then they could be given say an extra day off a month. The targets should be reasonable and achievable but obviously not too easy. You will need a way to measure performance and this can be done manually but a computer system would really come in handy for this motivational technique.

Promotion – If you have different levels and prices available for your clients then you can introduce a promotional criteria so that they can move up through the ranks and earn more money. One system would be to monitor the number of clients attended by the stylist weekly, the average bill for each client and whether the clients had requested the stylist. These 3 criteria should be tracked over 3 months and if the targets set are achieved then the stylist would be ready for promotion to the next level so improving moral, giving a cause for celebration and enabling the stylist to earn more money.

A competition in salon for stylists is another way to improve performance. One such idea would be to offer a prize such as an iPad or a short break away to the person that produced the best results. To make it fair you should consider how busy each stylist is before the competition is started and work out a system that would be reasonable and achievable such as a 20% increase in takings. The extra money brought in should cover the cost of the prize and raise the bar in the salon for future incentives.

How to Tell If You Have Over-Processed Skin

A relatively new skin condition has evolved-many doctors call it “over-processed” skin. As the name implies, over-processed skin is caused by an excess of invasive treatments. The skin is so abused that eventually it loses its natural properties-from its appearance to its capacity to heal.

Over-processed skin:

• looks like paper and is void of vital energy;

Title:

Rhyming Pattern:

A rhyming scheme refers to the pattern of the rhyme. For example, in Shakespearean sonnets, we notice the following rhyming pattern a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g. Rhyming words might be present either at the end of the line or in the middle. So, you have to mention them while making the critical appreciation of a poem.

Meter:

Genre:

Genre means the category of an artistic composition. Once you know which notes are good and which notes are bad, you will save yourself a lot of time. If you don’t have a deal after the first 10 notes you see, don’t be surprised – it may take awhile.

3. Get the phone to ring – Some people just starting out spend a considerable amount of time worrying about company names or how pretty the stationary looks. Marketing your business to find deals should be your number one priority. In either case, the more notes you see, the more deals may be found. If the phone does not ring, it doesn’t matter how unique your company name or letterhead.

4. Learn the business and then learn the shortcuts – You need to “get educated” in the note business. How to Get the Most Out of Joining the Military

So you are thinking about joining the military and want to make good choices regarding your career from the start. Whether you decide to have a long successful career and retire or you want to be a short timer and get out after your first contract you can have a very successful career post military as a contractor or in the civilian sector. How fast you become successful depends how you spend your time while you are in the military but we will talk about that in another article. Will you have a job in the military that is marketable in the contracting world or the civilian sector? Most people who have been in the military have a marketable skill they can carry over to the contracting world or the civilian sector once they get out. I would like to say all of those who get out have the experience needed to become successful even though I hear some former military personnel say that is not the case and they learned nothing of value in the military. As hard as that is for me to believe I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say there may be a small percentage of people getting out of the military that have no skills to use in the contracting world or civilian job market. If that is the case they probably did not take the time to pick a good career path in the military and did not take any classes while they were in. I will discuss ways you can avoid getting yourself in this situation. At the very least make sure you get the GI bill when you enlist this way you have money for school you can use once you get out of the military. If you want there are ways to use your GI bill while you are still in the military so that is one option you have to increase your marketability before you get out.

When you finally make your decision to join and take that trip to the recruiter you should do a few things before you go there. Remember this is a big decision and the choices you make now will affect your career path for the next three or more years depending on the length of your enlistment. This is not going to be something you can quit if you don’t like it or change jobs into another field after a year. You are picking the career you are going to be in for at least three to four years. The military uses a test called the ASVAB test that they give you so they know what jobs you qualify for. If you pick a field you want to work in you must have a high enough ASVAB score before they let you enlist in the job field. Go to the ASVAB page on military.com to take the tests and see how you do. You can also see the minimum ASVAB scores needed for each job and see if you will be able to qualify. Go to the military.com ASVAB test tips page to see how you can prepare for the test to get the best possible score you can. While you are doing this take the time to explore the different jobs the military branches have and find the ones you think best suit you. You will want to look at jobs that will carry over into a successful career once you get out of the military as much as jobs that you believe are the right fit for you.

One thing you should know about joining a specific branch is that the whole trash talking recruiters do about other branches is just to get you to join their branch. Do not pay any attention to it and pick the branch that can give you what you want. Go to the Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy websites and see what career fields they have. There are some good placement tests on these sites (Army Placement Test and Navy Placement Test) that have you pick your level of interest in different categories and then it compiles your answers to give you a list of jobs that you showed interest in. From there you should research the job market for each job and see what the job growth projections are in the civilian sector in that industry for the next five to ten years. A great place to start your research on an industries future outlook is the Bureau of Labor website. They have very good information on their statistics page and there top 30 fastest-growing occupations from 2006 – 2016. Remember you only get out what you put into something and the military is no different. The military can open many doors for you and can teach you very marketable skills you can use when you are finished with your military career no mater if it is for four years or twenty years. Like all careers though the best way to have a successful one is by planning it out.

Once you have picked your top few job choices and have taken the practice tests for the ASVAB its time to see if you qualify for those positions. Visit your local recruiters and see what each branch has to offer. Start with the Air Force then go to the Navy, Army and then the Marines. The only reason I say do it in that order is because the Air Force and Navy are not near as pushy as the Army and the Marines. If you go to the Marines first every time they see you going to another branch to talk to them they are going to talk trash to you and get pushier each time. It is almost like they are bullying you to join there branch. I know this because I joined the Marines and every time the recruiters from the Marines or the Army saw me going to other branches it was like a freaking heckling session. I chose the Marines because they were the only ones that had a slot open for my first choice. My personality is one that does not get rattled and I was not going to be swayed from doing my homework and finding the best fit for me. I do however see how some people could get very put off by this or let it effect there decision making. It is best to save the pushier recruiters till last.

Once you find a branch that has the slot you want and the best package all around it is time to take the ASVAB test. Do not sign anything until you pass your test with the score you need to get the job you want. If they say you have to sign before they give you the test it is a lie so either go to another branch to take the test or go to another town and try the recruiters there. If you do not get the score you need do not take a lesser job just go back to studying for the test again until you think you are ready and try it all over again. If you get the same score the second time it may be time to see if you qualify for one of your other top choices. But if you improved your test score by a significant amount you might want to think about studying a little more and taking the test a third time. Either way you will probably score high enough to get placed in one of your top choices if not you will have to do your research again and pick from the jobs you do qualify for. Remember though when you first start out shoot for the moon and do not sell your self short. A low test score only shows you what areas you need to work on so do not get discouraged and continue to work on improving yourself. Take the test as many times as you need to so you can get a job that you believe will help you out in the future. Not everyone is going to qualify for every job the first time it takes hard work and lots of study time if need be. I talked about picking the branch that has the best package earlier. By this I mean if more then one branch has a slot for your choice of jobs pick the one that has a better bonus program or gives you more money for college. Ask about training requirements for promotion in that field. That is the one area where I made a mistake. My chosen field was a very good one for opportunities post military but while I was in the military my specific job area was closed for promotion for about three years.

Once you find the best package and the job you want it is time to finally decide if this is what you want to do. When you sign on that dotted line you are committing to about four years of your life to active service and the following four years to inactive service where they can call you back if they want to. With stop loss in effect you could end up being in uniform longer than you thought. It is a big decision that is not for everybody and the possibility of you seeing combat is very real. Take the time to think about it and if you decide this is the career path you want to take realize the person you are now will dramatically change. You will learn to be discipline and that there is no such thing as “I can’t do this” or “it can’t be done”. Most people who join the military become much more confident in themselves and there abilities. They will teach you how to succeed and with the experience and knowledge you gain form your chosen profession you will be able to carry your experience with you when you join the civilian or contracting workforce once you retire or choose to get out at the end of your contract.

Hard Money Lenders -- "No Money Down" The Easy Way

Would it help you as a real estate investor to be able to

“Close For Cash in Days,” even if you’re tapped out

financially?

Hard money lenders are perhaps the best way to get 100%

financing with easy qualifying, money for fix- up, and fast

closings.

So what can hard money lenders do for you? Hard money

lenders make relatively short term (12-24 month) loans to

real estate investors for the purposes of acquiring the

property and rehabbing the property.

These loans are often funded by pools of private investors

that have been grouped together into a pool of capital by a

lender.

The hard money lender is looking for maximum return, and is

willing to take more risk for this return in the form of

easier lending standards.

If you strike the right purchase deal, you can even borrow

100% of the purchase price plus some or all of your repair

money by using hard money lenders. Here’s how it works.

Hard money lenders typically loan 65% of the ARV or After

Repair Value of the property when it is repaired or ready

for resale.

That 65% loaned by the hard money lender is calculated based

on the value of the property AFTER REPAIRS, not as it

currently sits, and not based on the price is being paid for

the property.

For example, Say that the owner is willing to sell me his

house for $60,000. The hard money lender’s appraiser agreed

with my assessment that the home could be sold for $100,000

once it was fixed up. That appraisal would allow me to

borrow 65% of the $100,000, or $65,000. I’m only paying

$60,000 for the property, so guess where that extra $5,000

goes?

Unfortunately, not into my vacation fund!

The extra loan proceeds go into an escrow account held by

the hard money lender, and I can draw it out as I do

repairs.

Remember, hard money lenders are not concerned with your

personal credit to the level that traditional lenders are.

They’re concerned with the property. They know that their

loan is fairly secure if you default.

What’s bad about hard money loans?

The fees are higher than conventional financing.

Hard moneylenders in my area charge 15% interest, and 5% of

the value of the loan in closing costs (“five points”).

Thus, on a hundred thousand dollar loan, there would be

$5,000 in fees to the lender to close the loan, plus

attorney’s fees and other charges.

Secondly, the loans usually are only good for 12-24 months.

After that time, you have to refinance. If you haven’t sold

it by then, you have to get a new loan, pay more fees, etc.

These are not loans to buy rentals with.

Another disadvantage is the fact that most hard money

lenders don’t figure the payments on a 30-year basis. The

longer the payments stretch out, the cheaper the payment.

They figure these loans on 15 or even 10-year terms. Thus,

the monthly payment that you must pay is much higher than it

would be on a conventional 30 year amortization schedule.

Also, hard money lenders are often more difficult to find

than traditional funding sources. As a gift, I have

compiled a national list of hard money lenders at my site to

solve this problem for you.

Finally, most hard money lenders require a pre-payment

penalty that must be paid if you refinance or pay off the

mortgage before a given amount of time. Fortunately, this

time period is often fairly short. For example, the hard

money lender that I use has a two month pre-payment penalty

period. Even if I am not going to do much work on the

property, and have a contract on it quickly, I can just set

up the closing for after the pre-payment penalty expires.

In conclusion, hard money lenders present an attractive

option for investors to succeed without having to resort to

the late night TV creative hype that we’ve probably all been

exposed to. If you can qualify for traditional financing,

and your seller is comfortable with a longer closing window,

you may want to stay with conventional financing.

However, if down payment money is tight and your credit is

not perfect, or you need to close very quickly, hard money

lenders may be a viable solution since they will allow

almost anyone who can find a good deal to purchase a

property extremely quickly, with less red tape, get money

for rehab, and have virtually unlimited access to cash.

About 5% of welders are certified 6G code welders. 6G is pipe welding – in fact it is the test for: “All-position pipe welding.” The skill test is to weld two pieces of pipe together which are mounted in a fixed position, at 45 degrees. Because you are welding a round object set at 45 degrees, you are proving your ability in every conceivable position. The weld quality must be very high, because replacing poorly welded pipe joints in a power plant (for example) is very expensive.

How much CAN a 6G Pipe Welder make?

Wages have gone down during the slow down. Not that long ago a “rig welder” (a welder with a welding machine on a truck) in Alberta, Canada would average $330,000 a year, but times are hard, so it is roughly half that much now. Off-shore oil rigs employing 6G welders are paying about $100k a year right now.

There are very few trades in life which are purely “skill based.” In other words, the possessor of the skill is highly paid simply because they can perform the skill (think of a tight-rope walker in a circus). Imagine a room of 100 of the most highly skilled structural welders (typically union iron workers, working on large building frames) and 100 CWI Welding Inspectors (the best of the welding inspectors, with vast welding book knowledge) and ONE uneducated, illiterate but certified and very capable 6G pipe welder… And there is an urgent need for someone to weld a high pressure pipe joint on a 6″ schedule 40 carbon steel pipe – guess who would be the ONLY person in a room of 201 people who could do it? That’s right, the pipe welder, even though the pipe welder can’t READ!

Anything worth having requires focused work. What do you think a heart surgeon concentrated on learning while in school? That’s right, heart surgery. Focus on the one thing that will make you money and burn it up like a laser beam! OTS! “Own The Skill!” Be careful NOT to waste time, money and effort on things which will not ever make you money, or which will make you very little money! DO what others are unwilling to put out the effort to master.

Is getting really good at 6G pipe welding as hard as walking a tight-rope in the circus? Most people who fail to learn 6G fail because they think they can do it with very little practice. Intense, concentrated and coordinated practice is the biggest secret, just like with learning to walk a tight-rope. There are a few other secrets.

Welding school may be fun, but here’s what happens to 95% of welding school graduates: They learn all the basics in a year or two of school. They NEVER get to where “The Powers That Be” will allow them to learn to weld pipe. They run out of money and time. They end up running a MIG machine in a trailer factory for very little money, or at BEST, they end up as an iron worker on big-building construction. Clean out closets from empty shoe boxes or clothes that you haven’t worn in 1 year or more.

Repair, recycle or revisit jewelry box content, give away jewelry to family members, friends or donate to someone who can wear those red heart earrings that you haven’t worn in 15 years. You know what I mean? We all have some ugly jewelry that needs to leave our homes and should have left the minute we only wore them once… Same for our watches that are too old and haggard to be worn again.

Kitchen cabinets filled with too many dishes or too many pots and pans: Some don’t even have handles anymore, but we still keep them in cabinets or drawers taking up valuable retail space.

Spice rack: Too many old spices, or spices that need to be consolidated, get rid of the excess and feel better with less clutter in your kitchen.

Too many old, unused or out-of-date electronics, ie., old clocks, radios, televisions, CD’s and well, you know what I mean. Donate them, give them away or contact a women’s shelter in your area to pick them up. One person’s things, gone unused can be used by another person during their hour of need for everyday living.

You get the picture, I just looked around my home to see how I can change my pattern and invite new ideas, actions, things and allow more positive things to be released into my life by inviting a paradigm shift in my focus, thoughts and intentions.

I’ve written songs for more than thirty years and the most fun I have had is writing comedy. After living in Nashville a while, I had gotten to know many famous and not so famous writers. My favorite writer is Bobby Braddock. I got to know Bobby and listened to his album, “Hard Pore Cornogaphy.” He was definitely a major inspiration for me to write funny songs.

I would write a few songs, give Bobby a tape and he would call me from his cell phone, usually laughing. He would make suggestions and I would listen because Bobby had many hits under his belt. He was my mentor and my friend. I can pass on his wisdom and my experience to you.

I started out by making a parody of a hit song that was presently on the top forty charts. I changed the song, “Friends in Low Places” to, “Friends in Crawl Spaces.” Writing a parody of a popular song is the best practice technique you can do. Simply listen to the song and insert your own funny words into it. You can take a serious love song and make it hilarious by twisting the meaning.

I took a serious love song of my own and turned it into the funny song below:

My dream, from the time I developed an obsession for writing stories, has been to write one that can make people cry. Well, my stories, I hear, have moved a goodly number of compassionate souls.

But really, what are the odds that stories can move a person to tears? Has the written word got such power? The answer is a resounding yes!

Have you ever read a story of an individual who goes through so much adversity that you are touched to the point of shedding tears? Maybe not, but I am sure that you have read something that is so touching that you feel the tears squeezing to burst out…

However, compared to television, the written word seems to pale in its power to move people’s emotion. Television sends a flood of information to the viewer’s eyes. Vivid images of the plight of the actors and their evident anguish flash before their eyes. If you have watched a sad movie, you will agree with me that the screen can easily move someone to tears. With mournful music playing in the back ground, even the most callous of souls are sent into sniffing.

Let us borrow one or two lessons from the movie industry and use that to write moving stories.

Firstly, television sends clear and vivid images of the plight of the actors. No one needs a special education to understand what he is seeing.

The same should be true of your writing if you want it to move people. Your writing should be clear and understandable to your target audience. Furthermore, use graphic language that creates vivid images in their minds. Help them visualize what the characters are going through and their feelings. Choose the right words. Your choice of words is, ultimately, what will determine whether your story will have an effect on your readers or not.

Secondly, the movies industry appeals to the compassion that is inherent in humans. All of us have a degree of compassion to those that we care for. So the movie industry moves to make the viewers develop a certain relationship with the actors, so that in the end, the viewer not only likes them but loves them. Therefore, she feels their pain and sorrow.

Employ the same in your stories. Make your readers develop a relationship with your characters. Let them identify with them. Make them love your characters. You’ll do this more effectively if you develop your characters in such a way that your reader seems them as real people with real problems. In short, develop the human side of your characters.

It is important to make your character a compassionate person too. Very few people will feel anything for a villain-unless you develop his humans side; if you show that in some situations, he loses his hard, callous side and reveals real humane emotions. People tend to love a good person, and in time, they will feel for him. So if you are writing a sad story, don’t make your main character a callous villain. When he suffers adversity, your reader will be like:

“He surely got what he deserved!”

Finally, the major trick of the movie industry: a twist in fate. You are there watching, and you are quite liking where everything is going, when BLAAAAAAM! Your favourite character experiences terrible misfortune, tragic loss, or even death. And since at this point you have developed feelings for the actor, you are moved to tears.

This you should do too in your story. Just at the point when everything is going fine and your reader is quite liking it, i.e. feeling the joy and happiness the character is feeling, BOOOM! tragic and heartrending misfortune attacks. At this point, since your reader has developed a relationship and hence affection for your character, she may be moved to tears….
