Different types of surveyors

It is the responsibility of the surveyor to make a detailed analysis of the construction projects like highways, airstrips and housing development. It is the duty of Surveyor to record all the readings accurately and maintain field notes so that the survey can be checked for accuracy. Surveyors can focus in one or more particular types of surveying.

Land surveyors work on township or properties. They survey the land based on maps, notes or land title deeds. This is done to verify the accuracy of existing records. This information is used to prepared legal document such as deeds and leases. Land surveying managers have to manage various staff involved in a project. He has to coordinate with surveyors, engineers, architects and lawyers. These managers also have to prepare budgets, certify work upon completion and work on other administrative duties.

Highway surveyors work on grades and lines for highway construction projects. This information will help engineers and construction crews to construct the new highway.

The art of surveying the earth surface considering its shape and size is called geodetic surveying. Geodetic surveying is suitable for finding out the area of any region on the earth surface, the length and directions of the border lines, contour lines and location of basic points. Geodetic surveying is done by engineers for finding out the exact location of the concerned point or area. The builders used Geodetic Surveying for finding out the direction of the buildings or their exact location for vaastu shastra. The vertical elevation, latitude and longitudes of the area surveyed are found out through geodetic surveying. Geodetic surveyors measure large masses of land, sea and space that must take into account the curvature of the earth and geo-physical characteristics. Benchmarks are used for determining the height or elevation of a point. The surveyor gives a permanent mark in the area which shows the benchmark for ages.

Marine surveyors measure harbors and rivers etc. They work on planning and constructing dams, piers, marinas, bridges and for preparing nautical charts and maps. Mine surveyors prepare maps for mining operations. Such maps help surveyors in assessing the volume and location of raw material available. Geophysical prospecting surveyors measure petroleum deposits. Oil well directional surveyors use sonic, electronic and nuclear measuring instruments to find out amount of oil and gas bearing reservoirs. Photogrammetry surveyors generally work on areas that are inaccessible or difficult to travel. They take survey of mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, roads, farms and building etc which is in accessible. They use special equipment to capture images of Ariel, land and water photographs of very large areas.  These pictures are helpful in taking accurate measurements of the terrain and surface features can be made. These surveys are helpful in construction projects and in the preparation of topographical maps.
