5 Mobile Recruitment Myths Busted

With the passage of time, the overall recruitment industry has undergone a drastic change. From newspaper advertising to job portals, websites and now mobile apps. Companies are resorting to new recruitment strategies every single day in order to tap the best possible talent for the respective industries.

Mobile recruiting is a recent phenomenon and most companies are resorting to it extensively with each passing day. However, it might come as a surprise but there exists certain myths surrounding mobile recruitment.

According to a recent iMomentous corporate readiness report, only two percent of Fortune 500 companies offer a “mobile apply” option for their jobs. The vast majority don’t have mobile-optimized career sites.

Having a mobile “dead zone” when it comes to recruiting talent can have serious business repercussions. In a survey by CareerBuilder of more than 2,000 employers, nearly 30 percent reported they currently have open positions for which they cannot find qualified candidates, and 23 percent have reported a loss in revenue due to job vacancies.

As the competition for high-skilled labour increases with each passing day, recruiters cannot afford to miss out on potential candidates just because technology is becoming a barrier. Recruiters will have to definitely look beyond these barriers

Explained below are five mobile recruiting myths that every company must be aware of:

#1. Myth: Hardly anyone searches for jobs on mobile devices

Fact: Mobile job search is increasing with each passing day; actually almost doubling each day. Most job sites receive substantial traffic from mobile job applications. Researches also suggest that searches for jobs on mobile devices went up to nearly 30 per cent globally over the past five years.

#2. Myth: No one applies to jobs from mobile apps

Fact: The volume of mobile application is increasing on a daily basis. According to a study conducted by CareerBuilder on mobile job search behavior, one in five employers who have mobile career sites reported that at least 20 percent of their applications come through mobile devices.

#3. Myth: Mobiles are something just for millennials and kids

Fact: Researches show that more than 70% of the adults now have a smartphone.

More than 50% of the population aged 44-54 and over use mobile phone device to search for jobs

More than 15% of the population falling under the age group of 18-30 are heavily dependent on smartphone for job hunting

#4. Nobody responds on their mobile especially job seekers

Fact: Researches have found that more than 40% of job seekers keep checking their smart phone on a regular basis for job hunt. So, as a recruiter, if you are not leveraging this much, then you are definitely losing out on something.

#5. Candidates will come later and apply through a computer

Fact: These days, no one really has time. People are busy and if you do not capture their attention span in the moment, then they are gone forever. Only a fraction of non-mobile career sites offer applicants the ability to email themselves a job description, but it’s virtually standard in mobile career sites.

The days of job application via desktop is fast becoming a passé. Recruiting in a four-screen world demands a candidate-centric and environment-aware strategy.
