3 Surefire Signs That Your Freezer Is About To Stop Working

Long gone are the times of worrying each day about food spoiling or getting sick as a result. Although these occurrences still happen, they are few and far in-between due to our technological advancements and the luxuries they now afford us. We can now cook large portions of dinner and save them for use in the future using refrigerators and freezers. Whether you are saving old wedding cake for an anniversary or storing large portions of meat from a hunt, we now have appliances that deliver all this convenience with extra luxury options. We have grown accustomed to having these available. When they malfunction or break they can cause huge inconvenience. Here are 3 surefire signs that your freezer is about to stop working

1. Frost and ice are building up on the inside walls

We have all had the experience of seeing a freezer with build up on the inside of the walls. Sometimes it is hard ice, and other times it is a snowy frost that continues to grow and build up on itself. Either way, it is a clear sign that the unit might need some repair or may malfunction soon. Often times units need to be defrosted and the ice melted so that space can be freed up. If the issue continues for long periods of time, or if the icing spread into the fridge portion of the unit, it can mean that there is a problem with the cooling.

2. The unit has gone silent

Refrigerator units make plenty of noise. It is not unusual for certain models and is quite common. Certain luxury and higher end models will be noticeably more silent than other units, however when one is completely silent- you may have an issue on your hands. The cooling is created by a compressor that operates inside the unit. When it falls silent, it may signal a malfunction or a freeze up in the lines of the unit. At this point the compressor could fail, or a build up of ice could accumulate in the lines or inside the compartments.

3. Puddles of water inside

If you reach for items in your freezer or fridge and notice boxes are moist or wet, or if entire puddles of water are beginning to accumulate at the bottoms of shelves and compartments- you may have an issue. Often times this could mean the compressor is not functioning, the thermostat is not regulating the temperature properly, or the unit has ceased to work and the unit is slowly losing is cool temperature causing ice build up to melt.

If you begin to notice any of these signs it may be time for a repair or a brand new unit. Don’t get stuck with a broken unit, mind these signs and stay ahead of it.
