US Concealed Carry Reciprocity - Nationwide Reciprocity Bills Introduced to Congress

Nationwide reciprocity for all concealed carry permit holders could be something more than just another item on our wish list. Congress has active bills poised to accomplish this currently in subcommittees.

Due to the recent administrative changes in Washington DC, supporters are optimistic that these bills stand more than a fighting chance of becoming law.

I always wondered why my 2nd Amendment rights stopped at my state line. They are American rights. I don’t wish to get in to any political issues. These are not political, they are our rights. Laws should protect our rights. Congress is nothing more than each state’s representatives, Our Congress makes our laws. The only reason we established the federal government is to get the states together, acting as one.

The awesome power of the United States, the President, and Congress only exists because we grant it. We have rights because we demand them. Each of us has the responsibility to voice our demands.

The bills introduced are as follows:

S. 498 – Introduced by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), this legislation would respect the rights of individuals who possess concealed carry permits from their home state, or who are not prohibited from carrying concealed in their home state, to exercise those rights in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

H.R. 923 – Introduced by U.S. Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.), this legislation is the House companion bill to S. 498. The legislation would also respect the rights of individuals who possess concealed carry permits from their home state, or who are not prohibited from carrying concealed in their home state, to exercise those rights in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

H.R. 986 – Introduced by U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), this bill would allow any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry. This bill would also provide legal protection for law-abiding concealed carry permit holders against states that violate the intent of this bill.

H.R. 402 – Introduced by U.S. Representative Rich Nugent (R-Fla.), this bill would allow any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

I believe these laws are way overdue. Sadly, my beliefs alone aren’t enough to make it so. These bills are not yet the laws they should be. They need your help. They need your voice. They need your letters. Call and write your U.S. Senator and ask them to cosponsor and support S. 498. Call and write your U.S. Representative and ask them to cosponsor and support H.R. 402, H.R. 986, H.R. 923.

Our system of government isn’t perfect. It’s just the best we’ve discovered so far. It does require one thing to work properly. Us. We the people, have the right and the power to say how we want to be governed. Our representatives work for us. We need to make sure they know what we want.

Be Safe
